Education in Somaliland

17 September 2026

Schools, universities and the bodies that regulate higher education in Somaliland.

The school system covers early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools and Quranic schools, with a mix of public, private and community provision. The Ministry of Education, Training and Science sets the curriculum and national examinations.

Higher education

The University of Hargeisa, established in 2000, is the largest public university with several thousand students across its colleges and campuses. Amoud University in Borama, founded in 1998, produced the first locally trained medical graduates in 2007. Other institutions serve Burao, Berbera and other cities, including health training institutions in Hargeisa. The National Commission for Higher Education accredits institutions and attests degrees and transcripts.

Dugsiyada

Nidaamka waxbarashada waxaa ka kooban xarumaha carruurta yaryar, dugsiyada hoose iyo sare iyo dugsiyada Qur''aanka, kuwaas oo qaar dowli, qaar gaar loo leeyahay, qaarna bulsho maalgeliso. Wasaaradda Waxbarashada, Tababarka iyo Sayniska waxay dejisaa manhajka iyo imtixaannada qaranka.

Tacliinta sare

Jaamacadda Hargeysa, oo la aasaasay 2000, waa jaamacadda dowliga ah ee ugu weyn, waxaana ku dhigta kumanaan arday oo ku kala qeybsan kulliyado iyo xarumo. Jaamacadda Camuud ee Boorama, oo la aasaasay 1998, waxay 2007 soo saartay dhakhaatiirtii ugu horreysay ee gudaha lagu tababaray. Waxaa jira jaamacado kale oo ka shaqeeya Burco, Berbera iyo magaalooyin kale, oo ay ku jiraan xarumo tababarka caafimaadka ee Hargeysa. Komishanka Qaranka Tacliinta Sare wuxuu shatiyeeyaa jaamacadaha, wuxuuna caddeeyaa shahaadooyinka iyo qoraallada natiijooyinka.
