26 August 2026 — Hargeysa. The 73rd meeting of the Council of Ministers, chaired by President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), discussed the country's security, trade and education situation.
The 73rd meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland, chaired by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), was held today at the Presidential Palace of Somaliland.
The Council of Ministers deliberated on the country's security, trade and education situation, hearing important briefings from the Ministries of Interior and National Security, Trade and Tourism, and Education, Youth and Science.
### 1. The General Security Situation of the Country
The Minister of Interior and National Security, Mr. Abdalle Mohamed Arab, briefed the Council on the general security situation of the country, stating that the country in general enjoys stability and reliable security.
The Minister stated that the disturbances that recently occurred in some areas of the Awdal and Selel regions are now coming to an end, and that peace and stability prevail in those areas. He also elaborated on the government-led efforts to strengthen peace, coexistence, reconciliation and community understanding in those areas.
The Minister strongly emphasized that in the areas where the disturbances occurred, no individual or group outside the Security Agencies is permitted to carry weapons of any kind.
He also noted that the Security Forces have orders to take lawful action against anyone violating this rule and to confiscate any such weapons.
### 2. The Situation of Fuel Prices and the Cost of Living
The Minister of Trade and Tourism, Mr. Abdirahman Hassan Nur, gave the Council a briefing on the rise in fuel prices and its impact on the livelihoods of the population, the cost of living and the exchange rate of the Somaliland Shilling.
The Minister informed the Council that large quantities of petroleum fuel have arrived in the country, with more petrol on the way, which will significantly change the rise in fuel prices and stabilize the fuel market.
The Minister outlined the steps the Ministry is taking, including market monitoring, cooperation with fuel traders, ensuring fuel availability and preventing increases not based on the real market situation.
The Minister stated that the Ministry will continue to stabilize the market, protect the purchasing power of the population and reduce the economic pressure caused by changes in fuel prices.
### 3. The Results of the 2026 Certificate Examinations
The Minister of Education, Youth and Science, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, briefed the Council on the release of the Certificate Examination results for Secondary and High Schools for 2026, which were officially announced on 25/08/2026.
The Minister shared with the Council the examination process, marking, verification and publication of results, noting the efforts made by the National Examinations Office and the Ministry of Education to ensure that the examination results are based on transparency, fairness and impartiality.
