16 September 2026 — Hargeisa. Acting President and VP Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi addressed the MSME and Cooperatives Development Forum at Serene Sarovar Premiere, emphasizing the role of small businesses in job creation and economic growth.
The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland and Acting President, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, today attended the Small, Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives Development Forum, which focuses on the role of small and medium-sized businesses in economic growth, job creation, and strengthening the economic capacity of the community.
The forum, held at the Serene Sarovar Premiere Hotel in Hargeisa, brought together government officials, agencies involved in business development, domestic entrepreneurs, representatives of cooperatives, and other sectors of society. Special emphasis was placed on expanding business opportunities accessible to small and medium enterprises, and on creating a system that enables them to sustainably grow their production.
The forum also addressed the challenges facing small and medium enterprises, existing opportunities, ways to improve access to financing, training, and capacity building, and how to strengthen cooperatives as a backbone for community economic development.
In his remarks, the Vice President of Somaliland and Acting President, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, noted that small and medium enterprises are an important part of the country''s economy, as they play a major role in creating employment opportunities, growing domestic production, and increasing the economic activity of the community.
The Vice President also highlighted that cooperatives are an important mechanism for connecting communities and mobilizing the economic power of citizens, especially those engaged in production, agriculture, livestock, handicrafts, and various services.
The Vice President emphasized that the development of small and medium enterprises is essential for growing the community economy, creating job opportunities, and increasing domestic production, calling on entrepreneurs to take advantage of available opportunities and build lasting economic partnerships.
